RICKY GERVAIS TO HOST GOLDEN GLOBES FOR THIRD YEAR IN A ROW DESPITE CONTROVERSY LAST YEAR

Though his dark humour has caused controversy at the last two Golden Globe ceremonies it would seem that the HFPA still think that British comedian Ricky Gervais is the best man for the job after it was confirmed last night that he would be hosting the show for the third consecutive year running.

A statement on the official Golden Globes Twitter page announced:

"Ricky Gervais will host the 69th Golden Globe Awards on January 15, 2012."

Last year's ceremony saw Gervais poke fun at various celebrities and films including Bruce Willis (lambasting some of his film flops and even referring to him as Ashton Kutcher's dad), The Tourist film (about whether the producers had bribed the association with Cher tickets), Robert Downey Jr (teasing the names of some of his films and his times in rehab) and the Sex and the City girls (about their ages and their appearances on the film poster).
Initial suggestions were that during the ceremony, Gervais had been sacked off screen with the HFPA's president previously saying that Gervais had definitely crossed the line with the jokes but it would seem that high ratings is what the show needs and with many people talking about the last two shows, it'll be interesting to see whether Gervais can make it a hat-trick of quality shows that will intertwine with the eagerly-awaited return of Billy Crystal to the Oscars, great times ahead!

As for the Golden Globes, they will be held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on January 15, 2012.
