BAFTA RISING STAR AWARD SHORTLIST ANNOUNCED

 

With the BAFTA awards two and a half months away, the group have already announced the 8 contenders for their Rising Star Award which is given to the talented contender who has made a strong impact within film and possibly television during their rise to fame.The nominees who will be cut down to five (predictions in bold) are:

• JESSICA CHASTAIN
• ADAM DEACON
• CHRIS HEMSWORTH
• TOM HIDDLESTON
• FELICITY JONES
• JENNIFER LAWRENCE
• CHRIS O'DOWD
• EDDIE REDMAYNE

Compared to the solid line-up of last year which included Gemma Arterton, Andrew Garfield and eventual winner Tom Hardy, this is a rather damp squib of contenders with Chastain, Lawrence and Hemsworth the only ones I entirely recognise though Jones has only just cropped up into my attention (such a pretty thing too). Surprisngly no Rooney Mara though I suppose people haven't seen Dragon Tattoo yet.

Despite Chastain's group of films out this year, she may struggle to be  familiar with British audiences though I hope she does win. Lawrence could win given her involvement in films such as Winter's Bones last year, X-Men First Class this year and Hunger Games next year but we'll just have to wait and see who the panel led by David Yates and Sienna Miller pick altogether....
